Ankr is proud to join the Zenrock ecosystem as a validator node operator, delivering unparalleled reliability to secure their testnet and mainnet. Together, we're creating an opportunity for all to leverage a unified custody layer for all of DeFi.

What Is Zenrock?

Zenrock is a blockchain infrastructure project that focuses on secure cross-chain asset management through a system built on distributed multi-party computation. The goal is to create an open custody and interoperable network that developers, wallets, and applications can use without relying on a central custodian.

Zenrock is built around a few core ideas. First, private keys should never exist in one place. Second, wrapped or cross-chain assets should be backed by transparent, verifiable custody. Third, the custody layer should be its own sovereign chain that anchors the network’s activity.

Key Components

  • Distributed MPC custody

Zenrock uses distributed multi-party computation to divide key control among a network of independent nodes. When a signature is needed, each node contributes a piece of the computation. The complete private key never gathers in one location. This design aims to remove the kinds of single points of failure that have caused many bridge and custody breaches.

  • zrChain

Zenrock operates its own blockchain, called zrChain, built on the Cosmos SDK. This chain acts as the coordination and consensus layer for the custody network. It records policies, signatures, and transactions connected to the custody process. It also provides the foundation for interoperability across multiple ecosystems.

  • Decentralised Custody Token standard

Zenrock has introduced the Decentralised Custody Token standard. This framework allows developers to create wrapped assets that are backed by Zenrock’s distributed custody system. These tokens represent assets held under MPC security and can move across chains with verifiable guarantees.

  • zenBTC and other wrapped assets

The best-known example of a DCT is zenBTC. This is a wrapped version of Bitcoin that is designed to be decentralised, transparent, and able to participate in DeFi ecosystems such as Solana. Zenrock has positioned zenBTC as a yield enabled representation of BTC, allowing holders to keep exposure to Bitcoin while engaging in cross chain activity.

  • The ROCK token

Zenrock uses a native asset called ROCK. It has a fixed supply of one billion tokens and a burn mechanism that reduces supply through activity on zrChain. The token supports governance and utility functions across the network.

Why the Project Matters

  • It tackles a long-standing problem in Web3. Bridges and custodians have historically introduced centralised choke points that can be attacked or mismanaged.
  • It provides a framework for using assets like Bitcoin in ecosystems such as Solana without trusting a single custodian.
  • It offers a developer-oriented model for building new wrapped assets with transparent proofs of how the underlying asset is held.
  • It carries forward experience and technology from the Qredo ecosystem, but shifts toward a more open and permissionless architecture.
